My name is Tahlia Walsh and I am a passionate 11-year-old environmentalist, in Year Six at the Distance Education Centre of Victoria (DECV). I live in Melbourne, Australia. I am part of Dr Jane Goodall’s international Roots and Shoots program and have had the privilege of meeting Dr Jane personally. She has now become my most inspirational mentor and we are in touch regularly.
My interest in palm oil started when I chatted to Dr Jane last year and she spoke to me about her time in Gombe. From then on, I have been very passionate about educating people about the environmental problems with palm oil. I have contacted the ABC and am hoping they will feature me on TV so I can talk about palm oil. I have been chosen to speak at the school awards day about my conservation work on palm oil in front of about 400 people! Outside of my environmental work, I love doing my Year 7 Italian through the Victorian School of Languages, and all the rest of my Year 6 schoolwork with the Distance Education Centre Victoria (DECV). DECV are extremely supportive of all the work I do with Palm Oil, Roots and Shoots, and Foodbank. I am also looking forward to displaying my own LEGO design at Brickvention in January 2019, a huge LEGO exhibition that thousands of visitors come to see! When I am not doing all of this, I love playing with my Our Generation Dolls and Sylvanian Families, and learning the glockenspiel and the dulcimer (a guitar type instrument), with my fantastic teacher Verna. I love trying to do what I can to change the world. View my page HERE. |
